The Clay Surface with Nicci Parry-Jones
Saturday 3rd Oct & Sunday 4th October
9:30 - 4pm
Our club is hosting a workshop with guest potter Nicci Parry-Jones.
There are infinite ways to decorate the clay surface. It can be done when the clay is soft,
leather hard, bone dry, bisqued and after it has been glazed. It can be glazed and have
decoration added and fired a third time with lustres and decals.
This workshop explores various decoration methods to apply to clay from the raw surface to
onglaze methods. Attendees are invited to bring along greenware to experiment on with
underglaze colours, water etching, tissue transfers, sgraffito through a resist and more. We
will look at surface treatments on leather hard clay like carving, sprigging, stamping, inlay,
applying slip and impressions with texture. Demonstrations will also be given on glazed
pieces with decals and the process of applying lustre explained.
Many of these techniques are more successful with good planning, and Nicci recommends
using a visual art diary as a valuable tool for designing, recording ideas and process and
what glaze you will use.
Cost: Cost for members is $200 (plus clay and firing)
